Samuel McAfee, 38, from Coolnagard Square in Omagh, was returned for trial at Dungannon Magistrates Court on Friday, facing charges of assaulting a man and occasioning him actual bodily harm, as well as driving dangerously.

The charges relate to an alleged incident at Orritor Street in Cookstown on August 16 last year.

McAfee, who was represented in court by solicitor Michael Fahy, was remanded on continuing bail to appear before Dungannon Crown Court on June 30.

Following the remand, Mr Fahy said it was “regrettably” necessary to withdraw the services of his firm, John Fahy & Co, from the proceedings.

The lawyer said this decision had been taken “in keeping with a resolution passed by the Bar Council” regarding the rules for legal aid payments in the Crown Court.
