On Thursday at 7.30pm our streets will come alive in a spectacular display telling us that the count-down is on and that Christmas is now really just around the corner.

This year we are delighted to welcome Pete Snodden from COOL FM as our compere, to keep everyone entertained and take charge on stage.

Throughout the event Pete will be mingling with the crowd to keep everyone in good spirits in the build-up to Santa’s arrival.

While you wait, there will be loads to keep kids of all ages amused - street stalls, free face painting , balloon modelling as well as a host of Christmas and Cartoon characters – watch out for a brand new Rudolph , the Minions and Olaf.

We are also looking forward to a live musical performance from local band Hype. Made up of brothers Pete Slevin (Vocals) and Patrick Slevin (Keyboards & Vocals) Hype bring with them years of experience in the music industry.

The band has built up a reputation as one of Northern Ireland’s most exciting bands with their unique on stage chemistry, high energy performance and musicianship – so it is just great that that they are all set to be part of their home town’s big Christmas event this year!

The highlight of the evening however has to be the arrival of Santa himself! Santa will join the Chairman of Cookstown District Council, Councillor Wilbert Buchanan and the current Tyrone Rose Sinead Taggart on stage just after 7.30pm and together they will press the magic red button and the town will light up in its breath-taking Christmas display.

So take a note right now to be there for the Big Switch On as Cookstown centre lights up for Christmas on Thursday 27th November.

The fun starts at 6.30pm and the Big Lights Switch-On will take place at 7.30pm. So why not get into the festive season in good time, wrap up warm and bring the family along to be part of this extra special night of the year!

Cookstown District Council would like to remind motorists that road diversions will be in place and William Street will be closed to through traffic on Thursday 27th November from 5.30 pm, re-opening at 9.30 pm.
