The prosecutor said the defendant attempted to get away and police used Cspray to arrest him.

She added that the constable sustained a one centimetre cut which required a staple to be inserted and an abrasion to his elbow.

A defence barrister said the defendant had express remorse for the incident.

He said the constable had intervened and the defendant had been resisting and the officer’s injury was the unintentional outcome.

District Judge Alan White told Slapins that he accepted the he did not intend to cause the injury but he nevertheless had to take responsibility for resisting the constable.
