Cops revisit scene of RAAD 'legal high' shooting

DETECTIVES in Foyle have revisited the scene of a shooting in Londonderry city centre last Wednesday evening (27th) in an effort to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time but has not yet come forward to police.

Detective Inspector Mark McClarence said: "The basis of our appeal centres on anyone who may have seen two people on a motorcycle in the Waterloo Place area last Wednesday evening between 5pm and 6pm.

"We believe the shooter escaped on the bike and made off down Harvey Street.

"We are also making enquiries in relation to a motorcycle found burnt out on the Braehead Road.

"Similarly we would ask for anyone who saw suspicious activity in that area to also come forward.

"This shooting happened in a busy city centre around tea time when young people were going home from school and ordinary people were out shopping or going about their day to day business.

"Whatever you have seen, no matter how small or insignificant you think it is, could help us track down those responsible."

A group styling itself Republican Action Against Drugs or RAAD has claimed responsibility for shooting the proprietor of the Red Star store in Waterloo Street, Mr Raymond Coyle.

The fifty-two-year-old was shot several times by a man wearing a motorcycle helmet in his shop on Waterloo Street at about last Wednesday.

His family said they believe he was shot because of his business which sells smoking paraphernalia and "legal highs."
