Corbet Lough study

Banbridge District Council has commissioned a report into the water quality in Corbet Lough.

In January 2013, the Council approved the commissioning of a study to explore water quality issues at the Lough.

The Council’s Environmental Services Committee have now recommended the appointment of a company to carry out the study.

A final report on the matter will then be presented to the Council’s Leisure and Development Committee next month.

The water quality in Corbet Lough has been said to have been deteriorating since around 1950, mainly due to an increase in levels of nitrates and phosphorus being carried in the water.

The study aims to identify and cost a range of short, medium and long term solutions that can address and improve the water quality and thereby maintain a healthy environment to sustain good fish stocks.
