Coronation Day parade boundfor Garvagh

GARVAGH Presbyterian Church will host a special thanksgiving service to commemorate the Queen’s Coronation next month.

The event is being organised by the officers and brethren of County Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge, and will take place on Coronation Day, Sunday, June 2.

In what will be an historic event, the County Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge will commemorate 60 Years of Her Majesty’s Coronation.

At the time, the event was held more than a year after her accession to the Throne, on Tuesday, June 2, 1953 in Westminster Abbey.

Our Queen is only the second British Sovereign in living history to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee after that of her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria.

Arrangements for the Garvagh event have just been released.

Brethren and bands are asked to assemble at grounds opposite Garvagh Orange Hall at 2.45.

The procession will commence at 3.15.

The parade willl include all eleven lodge districts and will be lead by Garvagh Pipe
 Band.

Brethren from No’s 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 Districts will be involved in this historic event.

Coleraine Fife and Drum will lead brethren from No’s 7,8,9,10 and 11 Districts as they make their way to Main Street Presbyterian Church for the service of thanksgiving at 3.30pm.

The church service will be conducted by the Reverend Raymond Kelly and the Reverend Joseph Andrews.

Members of the public are invited to come along to this historic event, which will commemorate 60 Years of the Coronation of Her Majesty the Queen.

Garvagh DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan has welcomed the event.

Describing the parade as an ‘historical event’, the MLA said: “The event will mark the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation.

“A little bit of history will be made in Garvagh, and I would encourage everyone to come along.”
