Corran pupils celebrate 20thmilestone with Olympic event

PUPILS of Corran Integrated Primary School and Nursery Unit have got into the Olympic spirit early to help mark a very special year.

This year the school celebrates its 20th anniversary and to make it an occasion to remember, the parents’ council organised a Corran Olympics sponsored walk in Carnfunnock Country Park, which raised an amazing £975 for school funds.

Nursery pupil Robbin McAlister and his family raised the most sponsorship and were rewarded with £100 of Spar gift vouchers, presented by Viking Lodge Spar store.

School principal, Denise Macfarlane, said: “Everyone had a fantastic day out at Carnfunnock. It was lovely to see so many Corran families spending time together, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and sharing picnics. Integrated education is all about bringing people together and this event was a wonderful way to celebrate our 20th birthday.”

The sponsored walk also celebrates Larne’s involvement with the Olympic torch relay. P5 pupil Holly said: “I’m looking forward to the Olympic torch going from one place to another and ending up in London. It will be exciting.”

The children have already celebrated the school’s 20th anniversary with a disco party and a mini-Olympics event is planned for the end of the school year, with pupils from neighbouring schools invited to attend.
