The Meat Merchant had a very unexpected visit to their store in Moira last week - from Northern Ireland’s own Charlie Lawson.

Charlie, perhaps better known as Coronation Street’s Jim McDonald, visited the renowned meat boutique and even took time to catch up with its skilled
butchers.

“We were sitting in the store when Charlie and his partner walked through the door,” explained David Rosbotham, associate director at Hannan Meats Ltd.

Charlie had heard all about The Meat Merchant via social media, thanks to Twitter-savvy Peter Hannan, founder of Hannan Meats Ltd.

“Peter is really dedicated to his Twitter account,” David commented.

“He’s constantly posting updates about our products and has gained a few famous followers.”

Charlie Lawson is originally from Enniskillen and now lives in England, where he recently opened his own farm shop with his partner, Debbie Stanley.

“There was a great buzz - all the butchers and guys down at the factory couldn’t believe it,” David said.

“Charlie has a big interest in meat, having his own shop in Chesire. We took him on a tour of our facility, and showed him our salt chamber - where we produce our award-winning salt-aged Glenarm beef. He seemed really impressed - he took some meat away with him.

Charlie later tweeted his gratitude for the tour, adding: “Excellent produce!”

With over 3,000 followers on Twitter, Peter is ensuring that the social network is aware of Hannan Meats Ltd’s famous products.

“Liz Hurley, the actress and model, also follows him on Twitter,” David said, “but we have yet to convince her to visit!”
