Corrie star to help celebrate Poundland’s arrival in Ballyclare

POUNDLAND - Europe’s biggest single price discount retailer - opened its new Ballyclare store on Thursday, October 4.

The opening of the new outlet, located in the former Peacocks shop unit on Main Street, will create 22 full-time and part-time jobs.

To mark the official unveiling of the store, Poundland will be holding a family fun day on Saturday (October 6) when Coronation Street’s Jack P. Shepherd - aka David Platt - will get the party started by signing autographs and having his picture taken with local Corrie fans.

From 10am Jack will be giving out £1 vouchers, which shoppers can exchange for anything from multi-bags of Walkers Crisps to greeting cards.

Poundland’s Trading Director, David Coxon, said: “Poundland offers exceptional value on top branded products to over 4.5 million customers every week. The £1 price hasn’t changed since we opened our first store 22 years ago. Our current customers love us and we are sure the Ballyclare shoppers will too.”

Darren Black, President of Ballyclare Chamber of Trade, added: “The announcement of new jobs for the town is a welcome boost, especially in the wake of the recent news of redundancies at FG Wilson. It is also good for the town to have such a prominent site filled so quickly after the loss of Peacocks.”
