Could not afford car insurance

A YOUNG Lurgan man was fined £150 last Thursday at Craigavon court for driving without insurance on May 10.

Conor McConville (19), of Colane Road, Lurgan, was also banned from driving for two weeks.

The court heard the offence happened at the junction of the Brankin Island Road and the Derrymore Road.

A solicitor for the defendant said he previously had insurance under his father’s name but he could not afford it and it had lapsed about two weeks.

He explained that his client had fallen out with his girlfriend and decided to take her home. He ended up crashing into a fence and the car has been written off.
