Could you donate a coat to St Vincent de Paul’s appeal?

The Salvation Army and ITV Daybreak have joined forces on the Donate a Coat Appeal to help people who are less fortunate this winter.

The appeal was launched on Monday last with people encouraged to donate new or nearly-new coats in good condition to The Salvation Army for distribution to homeless people, families in poverty and older people struggling to keep warm this winter.

“Donate a Coat is a fantastic opportunity to encourage community spirit across the nation and help people living on low incomes who struggle to afford adequate clothing. It’s a very practical response to the cold winter weather ahead and we will be working alongside a number of agencies to identify individuals and families who would benefit from an extra warm layer this winter,” said Lieutenant Dominic Eaton, minister at Londonderry Salvation Army.

Through its network of 800 churches and social service centres, The Salvation Army works with thousands of individuals, older people, children and families and is perfectly placed to help those people in society who are most at need.

Donating to The Appeal is easy, simply take a coat along to the Londonderry Salvation Army Charity Shop at 3 John Street. The premises is open from 9am to 5pm every day. The Salvation Army will then pass on your unwanted coat, that is clean and in good condition, to someone else who needs it. Coats donated to this appeal will not be sold.
