Council agrees to Armoy scrambling track

MOYLE Council is to lease part of the Limepark area of Armoy to Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club for organised scrambling events.

Armoy Rugby Club is also a tenant of the Council's at Limepark and agreement has been reached between all parties, councillors were told.

A Moyle Council report said: 'Further to February's meeting and correspondence received from the above group (Armoy Motorcycle Club) regarding the possibility of leasing land at Limepark Armoy for the purpose of organised scrambling events, as Members are aware an area of Limepark is currently leased to Armoy Rugby Club.

'A meeting was facilitated by Council's Recreation Department between the two parties to investigate the possibility of adapting the lease and site map to suit both parties. The meeting was very constructive, a lot of issues were discussed and a proposed map was agreed initially subject to being ratified by the Rugby Club Committee.

'Council has received confirmation from Armoy R.F.C indicating that the Club had discussed the matter and although there were a few exceptions, they would be happy to proceed subject to constraints within the lease.

'It is recommended that Council's Recreation Department will liaise between the two parties and Council's Solicitor to draw up a lease which will be agreed by both parties,' said the report.

Cllr David McAllister (DUP) suggested that the Council supports the plan and that was agreed by the Council.

Cllr McAllister said the scrambling plan is a "fantastic idea".

He added: "For too long I have seen people on scramblers being demonised and to have an area for them I welcome it with open arms."

The proposal was seconded by Cllr Paudie McShane.
