Council clears up confusion over future of its Mossley Mill headquarters

The local authority was responding to a story published by a Belfast newspaper last week which claimed that the building on Carnmoney Road North was “one of many former council buildings vacated after the Review of Public Administration” and is now “on the market for let”.

Cllr Stephen Ross said that he had received telephone calls from “a number of upset residents” following the publication of the story.

“Mossley Mill, to myself and many others, is part of our lives - something that has gone from being central to the community as an employer to a near derelict building, to once again being central to not only people in Mossley, but to Newtownabbey as a whole,” he said.

Clarifying the situation, a spokesperson for the council said: “Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council have unoccupied office space in Mossley Mill which is currently available to let. Council will continue to use the rest of the building as normal and this will not have any impact on the facilities and services that the public currently enjoy. The letting of this space will help utilise this building to its full capacity.”
