Council commemorates 50th anniversary of the borough

Lisburn City Council recently commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Lisburn Borough with a Service of Thanksgiving.

The Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim, Mrs Joan Christie, OBE, along with the Mayor, Councillor Margaret Tolerton, MP Jeffrey Donaldson, Elected Members and invited guests attended the Act of Worship at Railway Street Presbyterian Church.

Speaking after the Service the Mayor said that marking the occasion with a Church Service was an appropriate way to recognise this important milestone.

“Lisburn has a long and rich history. In the modern era, Lisburn began its new journey 50 years ago, on March 24. This was a real honour and can be viewed as a major milestone in our journey which saw us being awarded City Status in 2002.

“We are thankful for all that Lisburn has and the local people who make it special so a Service of Thanksgiving seemed particularly appropriate.

“I would like to thank my chaplain Rev William Henry and Railway Street Presbyterian Church for welcoming us, while my own Church, Maze Presbyterian, is subject to building work and for everybody who came along to celebrate and mark this special occasion,” said Mrs Tolerton.
