Council considers display at Garden Show Ireland

LISBURN Council is considering providing a boxed display at next year’s Garden Show Ireland to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation.

Speaking at the recent Environmental Services Committee meeting, Councillor Jenny Palmer referred to the display competition element of the show in Hillsborough.

While the Council provided technical assistance at the event each year, it did not provide a show garden, similar to those built by other councils from across the Province.

The Director of Environmental Services said the decision had been taken some years ago that it was not value for money to provide a show garden for the weekend of the show that was of no use after that event; however, three dimensional displays, such as The Bugler, were provided by the council and relocated after the show for display throughout the summer.

It was proposed by Cllr Palmer, seconded by Cllr Margaret Tolerton and agreed to recommend that, in light of next year being the 60th Anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation, consideration be given to the council providing a boxed display in Garden Show Ireland, which could then be relocated after the event to another area of the city.
