Council encourage residents to ‘Cook It’ and eat healthily

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has just completed its latest ‘Cook It’ programme, teaching men over 65 years old how to cook nutritious, tasty meals on a budget.

The ‘Cook It’ programme is designed to be a fun way for participants to learn about food, enhance their understanding of health and nutrition and to develop their practical cookery skills.

The six week programme is delivered by experienced facilitators, who provides participants with information on recycling at home and how to reduce food waste.

Speaking at the end of one of the programmes targeting the ‘Over 65s’ Pearl Mahon, Health and Well-Being Officer at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council commented: ‘‘Council proactively promotes healthy eating and cookery within communities throughout the Borough in its efforts to address the growing concerns around obesity and food affordability within Northern Ireland.

“During the current economic climate healthy eating on a budget is a key issue for communities.
