Council expresses sadness at road tragedy

The Chair and Vice-Chair of Banbridge Police and Community Safety Partnership have expressed their condolences to the parents and wider family of teenager Mark Colgan who died after being knocked down on the Scarva Road.

“Banbridge PCSP is deeply shocked and saddened to hear that another young and vibrant member of the local community has lost his life on the roads.

“Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very difficult time. This young man’s passing will have a significant impact on his family, friends and the wider community,” commented Chairman Councillor Junior McCrum. PCSP Vice-Chair Mr Jonathan Murphy echoed these sentiments and said the accident underlined the dangers that still exist for everyone on Northern Ireland’s roads.

He said, “We are devastated to hear that a young man who had his whole life ahead of him has been taken from his family in such circumstances.

“A tragedy such as this only underlines the importance of raising awareness about the dangers on our roads. Promoting road safety will remain a key priority in the work that we do.”
