Elaine Magennis, 7 Garland Crescent, Lurgan, Litter Offence at Rushmere Shopping Centre car park. Fined 75 plus 94 costs.

The Council has pledged to get tough on litter louts and has been true to its word.

“Our environmental wardens are being very vigilant,” said Chair of Environmental Services, Councillor Johnny McGibbon, “and in November alone we issued over 125 Fixed Penalty Notices. That’s 125 people being asked to pay 50 for either dropping litter or allowing their dog to foul in public places. Those who don’t pay are pursued through the courts.

“We’re also appointing another full-time environmental warden so we’ll have three full-time people on the look out for litter louts. The message is if you litter you will get caught.”

Its costs a family of four in Craigavon 80 per year to keep the streets of the borough clean.
