Council gives stamp of approval to Ballykeel PO move

PLANS BY the Post Office to move Ballykeel PO to improved premises have been welcomed by Ballymena Councillors.

Members were told at last Tuesday’s monthly meeting of Council of the proposal to relocate the service to 8 Crebilly Road, just next door to the existing premises.

The move will, according to the company, “offer improved facilities and an increased retail offer” to customers.

Councillor Davy Tweed described it as “a positive step” for Ballykeel while Cllr Martin Clarke commented: “I’m glad it’s not closing down, like Harryville”.

He added: “It would have been disastrous for Ballykeel if it had closed”.

Cllr Clarke went on to bemoan the length of queues which, he said, are regularly to be found at the main Post Office on Wellington Street and Cllr Hubert Nicholl complained of a similar situation at the Post Office within The Phoenix on the Antrim Road.

Cllr Beth Adger, however, challenged the latter claim, stating that she had not encountered a problem with queues.

The suggestion by Chief Executive, Mrs Anne Donaghy, to write to Post Office Ltd querying how they monitor service provision was agreed to by all at the meeting.
