Council host mayoral reception for Glensiders man

THE mayor of Coleraine, councillor Sandy Gilkinson, recently hosted an afternoon reception to honour the work of Jim McCullough, former member of the Glensiders.

Mr and Mrs McCullough, accompanied by their daughter Justine, enjoyed afternoon tea in the Mayor’s Parlour to acknowledge Jim’s association with Council over 30 years.

Jim, who has been actively involved with music all of his life, has regularly performed at Council tea dances with the Glensiders, alongside various partners, but in more recent years with Andy Craig who retired a year ago.

Mayor Gilkinson said: “I was pleased to have Jim and his family to my Parlour for this afternoon’s celebrations. Jim’s music has continually given immense pleasure to our visitors and patrons from both Northern Ireland and further afield. I have no doubt that it has always been a combination of Jim’s friendly personality and musical talent, which attracted so many patrons to Council’s tea dances.”

Mr Jim McCullough accepted a photograph, taken with the Mayor at his last engagement with Council at the Christmas tea dance in the Best Western Magherabuoy Hotel, Portrush.

The Mayor said: “I am honoured to present Jim with this photograph as a token of our appreciation for the many years of enjoyment he has given to the people of the Borough and beyond.”

Council’s tea dances are still ongoing at the Magherabuoy Hotel. For further information please contact Leisure Services at Coleraine Borough Council on 028 7034 7232.
