Council in cash appeal for Ulster Orchestra

Ballymena Councillors have backed a proposal from one of their own to take a step which could help save the cash-strapped Ulster Orchestra.

At their November monthly meeting, Cllr James Currie proposed they write to the Local Government Association (NILGA) to seek contributions from Councils province-wide for the orchestra, one of Northern Ireland’s leading artistic organisations, which has seen its funding slashed in recent times.

The full extent of the cash crisis facing the internationally-renowned ensemble was revealed at the Assembly’s culture, arts and leisure committee last month.
