Council logo for Royal Black booklet?

A REQUEST from Ballymena Royal Black District Chapter No.2 to use Ballymena Borough Council's logo on its 2010 County Booklet has been approved in principle by the local authority.

It was agreed by councillors at their monthly meeting, last Monday night, to approve the RBP’s use of the civic logo and crest subject to investigation by council officers of the content of the booklet.

Making the request, Ballymena Chapter No.2 pointed out that proceeds from the booklet’s sale will be given entirely to three local charities.

Prior to council’s ‘in principle’ approval, last week, Cllr. Declan O’Loan said the onus was on Council to protect its logo.

However, it was pointed out by the Mayor, Cllr James Currie that a number of different organisations have, in the past, used the logo “as representing Ballymena”.

Council’s Chief Executive, Anne Donaghy, confirmed that to be the case and added that it was standard “good practice” by Council to check the content of any publication which sought to use the local authority’s logo and crest.
