Council make two lanes promise

COUNCIL has stressed there will be two lanes of traffic following the completion of the public realm scheme, but lane closures will be made as the work continues.

In a statement to the 'MAIL' the council said: "The public realm works allows for two lanes of traffic both ways through the town centre.

"Craigavon Borough Council is at pains to point out that whilst work is continuing on the central plaza because of health and safety there will be temporary lane closures, but when the work is completed there will be two lanes of traffic through the town both ways."

It continued: "In addition work on the central plaza will still see car parking spaces available, but with cars being parked parallel to the plaza as opposed to the current parking arrangement.

"RPS who manage the public realm works on behalf of Council have advised that the figures previously provided for car parking spaces are as accurate as can be.

"Lurgan residents can be reassured that although some garden beds are being removed they will be replaced with more mobile planters such as flower towers so that Lurgan will have some colour this summer.

"People are also noticing the tarmac squares left within the granite works completed and quite rightly are querying why this is the case. These areas have been deliberately left like this for easy access when putting in trees, bins or street furniture. When the trees are planted they will have a soil base and tree grills or guards. The area around street furniture will be finished with granite.
