Council members are updated on £5.8m roads investment

Members of Coleraine Borough Council have been updated on the progress of Roads Service investment in the Coleraine area.

At last Tuesday’s meeting, Divisional Roads Manager Deirdre Mackle, highlighted a number of improvements and maintenance schemes completed or being progressed in the area, as part of the departments £5.8 million investment in the Coleraine area.

To date £400,00 has been spent on the Sandelford Bridge replaceing the parapet railings. Resurfacing is now planned on the bridge towards the end of the financial year.

The meeting heard about a traffic calming scheme at Somerset Drive and Laurel Hill, this will include the introduction of a 20mph zone. The scheme aims to manage vehicle speeds and driver behaviour.

Other works planned include a short stretch of footway on the Gateside Road to connect Islandmore to the housing on Craigahulliar Road.

Members were also updated on the A26 dualling scheme which will see around seven kilometres of dual carriageway between Glarryford and the Drones Road.
