'˜Council need to make example of fly-tippers'

A local councillor has hit out after a substantial amount of rubble, bricks and plaster was left close to the junction of the Manse Road and the Doagh Road.

Cllr Stephen Ross said: “It is a disgrace that this rubble has been dumped here. Incidents like this are only harming the ratepayers.

“It will cost a lot of money to clean this area up. This money could have been spent on other worthwhile projects and services.”

The DUP representative added: “The local community do not want this. This building waste appears to have been brought into the area on a lorry as there is so much of it.

“I would be calling for prosecutions for anyone caught fly-tipping and I hope that anyone who is caught for incidents like this is made an example of in order to deter others from similar activities.”

The Times understands that the incident has been reported to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council. The local authority was asked for a comment on the issue, but none was forthcoming at the time of going to press.
