Council ‘needs to drawup a redundancy policy’

LARNE Borough Council is to draw up a redundancy policy – while stressing that it is not required “for imminent use”.

The local authority, which does not have any such policy in place and present, has undertaken to consult with employees and trade unions ahead of producing a document.

The move was approved in confidential session at a policy and resources committee meeting.

Minutes report that chief executive Geraldine McGahey “stressed that officers did not foresee the use for such a policy in the near future: rather it was intended to draw up the policy when there was no pressure to have one”.
