Council note financial request from Mary Peters Trust

BALLYMONEY Borough Council has noted a request from Dame Mary Peters, President of the Mary Peters Trust seeking financial support in 2010/11 towards the Trusts sporting awards programme.

During a recent Leisure and Amenities Committee meeting, members heard that the Trust awarded over 56,000 to 175 young people representing over 30 sports.

The report explained: “Dame Mary Peters, President of the Mary Peters Trust (previously the Ulster Sports Trust) has written to the Council seeking financial support in 2010/11 towards the Trusts sporting awards programme.

“In 2009 the Trust awarded over 56,000 to 175 young people representing over 30 sports. Awards were made to a young person who resides in the borough. Committee is asked to consider the request.”

The Director advised members that Ballymoney Sports Advisory Committee gave grants to local sporting athletes in the borough.

It was proposed by Cllr Malachy McCamphill and seconded by Cllr Evelyne Robinson.
