Council offers free garden compost

gardeners in the Larne area are being encouraged to take advantage of the local council’s annual free compost giveaway to help give summer planting a kickstart.

As part of National Compost Awareness Week, the local authority is hoping local residents will not only take up the offer of some free compost, but will also learn more about making their own.

This year two bags of compost are being offered per person - please bring your own bags. This will be available from Saturday, May 5 to Sunday, May 13 at the recycling centres at Redlands and Glenarm.

Meanwhile, council staff will be on hand at a special compost-making workshop on Tuesday, May 8 from 11am to 3pm to encourage local gardeners to have a go at making their own compost.

As well as demonstrations and question and answer sessions, there will be a selection of composters and details of the scheme for householders to purchase a composter at the special rate of £5.
