Council offices to be used as film location for The Fall

Fans of Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan could be flocking to Mossley Mill after local councillors agreed to a filming request by the production company behind the series.

The series, which stars Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan, is currently being filmed at locations across Northern Ireland, with Antrim and Newtownabbey councillors agreeing on Tuesday night to the council facility being used as a filming location.

Councillors were advised at their monthly meeting that Tiger Aspect Productions, the company behind the series, had made a number of visits to Mossley Mill and had identified the Mill as a suitable location for some specific scenes, “primarily due to the uniqueness of the spaces including the distinctive architectural features”.

It was noted that this is the first time they have chosen a building outside Belfast for this production.

Welcoming the news that the council facility had been chosen as a filming location, Alderman Mark Cosgrove said it was “great exposure” for the council, and proposed councillors back the proposal to allow the filming to take place.

“It is an opportunity to promote a civic building like this, one of the best examples of a regeneration project,” Ald. Cosgrove said.

Seconding Ald. Cosgrove’s proposal, Ald. Pamela Barr joked that she would do so only if she could meet actor Jamie Dornan.

Mayor Councillor Thomas Hogg commented that the “Mayor’s Parlour could be at your disposal”, while Councillor Annemarie Logue said Ald. Barr had “beat her to it”, jokingly adding that perhaps extras might be needed for filming.

Councillors agreed to the production company’s request to film at both the Theatre at the Mill and Mossley Mill North Fourth Floor over two days in late February/early March.

In order to accommodate filming at both areas in Mossley Mill there will be no access to staff and the public for the two areas for the duration of filming.

Councillors were advised that the specific dates can be agreed in order to minimise any disruption to the site and existing booking commitments with closures publicised in advance.

The production company has offered a location fee of £1,000 for the use of the facility.
