Council probes Mallusk industrial incident

Antrim and Newtownabby Council have launched an investigation after a man was seriously injured in a workplace incident at Mallusk.

It happened at McKinney Industrial Estate at about 5.50pm on Thursday.

A spokesman for the NI Fire and Rescue Service told the Times that two appliances from Glengormley Fire Station and one from Central Fire Station in Belfast were deployed to the scene.

The man was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment to his injuries, and his condition has been described as “stable” by the Belfast Health Trust.

A council spokesperson said: “Staff from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Environmental Health section are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident at a business premises in Mallusk.

“Our staff were on site at the premises this morning (Friday) and investigations are ongoing.”

It is the local authority’s responsibility to investigate the circumstances under the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978.
