Council promotes local tourism

Lisburn City Council operates a ‘Visit Lisburn Network’, which encourages businesses within the local tourism sector to liaise with each other and develop business relationships.

It aims to encourage these local organisations and service providers to think about the wider tourism product across the Lisburn City Council area.

Tourism contributes significantly to the local economy and through its Tourism Development Section, the Council supports businesses in the local hospitality sector to identify opportunities and signpost complimentary businesses.

One such opportunity was the recent ‘Visit Lisburn Networking Event’ that was attended by representatives of local tourist attractions and retailers.

Alderman Allan Ewart, speaking at the networking event, commented: “It is great to see such a variety of organisations represented here today as each of you play an important part in the Lisburn area.

“Networking events such as this are arranged by the Council to not only allow you to meet with your peers but also to provide you with information that will benefit your organisation and therefore the local economy in terms of tourism and income generation.

“We heard about the fantastic redevelopment of the Council’s Lagan Valley LeisurePlex which, when completed, will retain its attraction as a top-class facility for both fitness and swimming activities.

“I am delighted that Business Coach Leah McStravick was able to attend this event and talk to us all about the importance of emotional intelligence.

“Emotional intelligence is the difference between a good leader and a manager.

“After hearing the benefits of it I am sure you will all try your very best to adapt your leadership style to enable your business to further succeed and to have the respect of your staff as you work to develop them and build trusted relationships.”

The next ‘Visit Lisburn Networking Event’ will take place on Thursday April 16, 2015.
