Council reports improved turnouts at festive events

Attendance levels at the council’s 2013 Christmas events were up on the previous year, according to a report presented to the Development Committee.

The report states that attendances were up across the borough, and that “significant increases” were noted in several areas.

“A series of events took place across the borough, including two large scale public events in Glengormley and Ballyclare, fifteen Christmas tree lighting ceremonies, ten story telling sessions with Santa in his grotto, a civic carol service at Mossley Mill and a senior citizens’ tea dance in Ballyclare,” councillors were informed.

“Attendance levels at all the events exceeded those in 2012, with significant increases noted in Monkstown, Mallusk and Ballyrobert.

“Over £1,300 was raised through the Santa’s grotto over the three-week period for various charities supported by the Mayor and Newtownabbey Rotary Club.”

A review of last year’s events will take place before draft plans are drawn up for the 2014 Christmas events programme.
