Council responsible dog owners initiative well received

A recent Lisburn City Council campaign for dog owners to be responsible for their pet’s mess has been well received.

The campaign continues with increased Dog Warden patrols in a bid to deter and catch offenders of irresponsible dog fouling and is making free poop scoops more widely available. The Council is currently working with Lagan Valley Regional Park and is concentrating its next campaign on the Lagan towpath area.

Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, Councillor Jenny Palmer, explained: This joint initiative with Lagan Valley Regional Park, Belfast City Council and Castlereagh Borough Council means that there is a cohesive approach to ensuring the scenic route of the towpath is one that can be enjoyed by all walkers without the concern of dog fouling. The Council has placed a free poop scoop dispenser at the start of the towpath at Lagan Valley Island and would encourage dog walkers to use this facility as part of their dog walking routine.”
