Council reveals itsregeneration plans

During a Leisure and Development Committee meeting, councillors heard that the powers of regeneration, which were to potentially transfer to Council in 2015, still remained with the Department for Social Development.

The report continued: “Given the arrival of the Open in 2019, Portrush remains a project of regional significance, The planned projects for the period leading up to 2019 which can be implemented pre and post-2019 include traffic management and transportation, completion of public realm works and revitalise scheme and animation for the town. This remains subject to government funding and agreement on all scheme.”

It was also revealed that over the past few months, the Department’s two offices in Ballymena and the North West have engaged with officers throughout the legacy council areas to define future schemes.

The report explained that “subject to funding”, the following schemes had been earmarked for development in the coming year: Coleraine revitalise shop front scheme, the Village Renewal Scheme under the Rural Development Programme as well as the development of the Portrush Heritage Lottery Fund application for Lansdowne Crescent and surrounding areas.
