On April 1st this year, following the reorganisation of local councils, off street parking functions transferred from DRD to local councils, including Causeway Coast and Glens.

During this time, however, DRD have continued to deliver enforcement of parking fees and fines and administer fixed penalty notices.

At Tuesday’s meeting of Causeway Coast and Glens Council’s Environmental Committee, it was agreed to enter into discussions with DRD with a view to continuing with elements of the arrangement.

Director of Environmental Services, Aidan McPeak, told members that there would be a review of how all car parks had performed in the period since April.

“Some exceeded expectations and some did not,” he said.

He also said that Council would be reviewing the “five hours for £1” arrangement in some car parks.
