DUP Councillor Darren Causby proposed an additional spend of £150,000 which will be explored in September.

Council has also pledged to look at rural areas that don’t have play parks, including Aghagallon, championed by SDLP Councillor Joe Nelson.

DUP Councillor Mark Baxter is pushing for an upgrade to play areas in Waringstown and Donaghcloney.

He said: “The dated steel structures in both villages look tired and aren’t very appealing to children. I trust this spend that was agreed by council will go some way to redressing this issue. The perception is in these rural villages that residents needs are sometimes sidelined to concentrate on the more densely populated areas of the borough, but I can assure them that I will continue to lobby for the rural villages in play provision.”
