Council spearheading Driving for Work policy

COLERAINE and Ballymoney Road Safety Committees have combined forces to illustrate to local businesses the benefits of introducing a "Driving for Work Policy".

This initiative is being spearheaded by the committees in light of statistics that suggest that one in three road traffic collisions involve victims who are driving in the course of their work.

The Committees are keen to deliver the message that most of the victims are not necessarily professional drivers, such as coach and lorry drivers, but includes everyone from the commercial traveler to the employee travelling to a business meeting.

Working in partnership with Coleraine and Ballymoney Borough Councils, the committees have organised a Breakfast Seminar in Ballymoney Town Hall on Thursday, January 21, at 8.30am.

Employers from Coleraine and Ballymoney who have employees driving, in any capacity, during the course of their day’s work, are invited to attend the seminar.

“We believe this is an excellent opportunity for employers in all sectors to learn how to put a "driving for business" policy into effect and to do their bit to reduce road related incidents throughout the province,” said a spokesman for the committees.

“The seminar will comprise of a number of speakers, from both Northern Ireland and the mainland, and will focus on the core issues involved in putting a policy in place that will ultimately protect both themselves and their drivers.

“The key note speaker is a driving for better business champion - Tracey Young from Arval Fleet and Road Safety Manager. The benefits of this are of course, with a proper policy in place there will be both cost and human recourse savings made. The details of these will be set out during the event.

“As a result of the generous support from Ballymoney DPP, The Department of Environment Road Safety Division, Ballymoney Borough Council and Coleraine Borough Council we are delighted to advise that admission to this event, including breakfast, will be free, and as such we anticipate a quick take up of places and would encourage an early expression of interest if you wish to attend.”
