STAFF and services at Lisburn City Council have been nominated for three awards in the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) Awards.

The HR Unit has been nominated in the ‘Human Resources Service’ category for its ‘HR Clinic Scheme’. The Building Control Unit is vying for the ‘Best Local Authority Service Team’ for its excellent service and the Assistant Director of the Building Control Service, Ian Wilson has been nominated in the ‘Employee of the Year’ category.

Councillor Stephen Martin, Chairman of the Council’s Corporate Services Committee, said: he was delighted the Council has been nominated for the final stage in three categories.

“Through the HR Clinic the Council’s HR practitioners meet weekly to conduct a dedicated and systematic review of the current people management policies, procedures and practices in order to assist in identifying any shortcomings and areas for improvement” he said.

Alderman James Tinsley, Chairman of the Council’s Planning Committee, added: “The Council’s Building Control Service continually strives to make its services as user-friendly as possible for our ratepayers and the local construction sector, and this is evident from its successful Customer Service Excellence re-accreditation. This service, through its innovative and customer facing Management Information System (MIS), has delivered ‘first of its kind’, integrated, e-enabled customer services while achieving business efficiencies, service improvements and increased customer choice while reducing costs.

“To have Ian Wilson nominated as Employee of the Year I believe is not only a remarkable achievement for Ian but also for the Council’s Building Control Service. Ian works tirelessly as an Assistant Director in the Environmental Services Department to ensure that all building control and planning issues within the Lisburn City Council area are progressed for the benefit of the City,” he concluded.

The overall winners will be announced at the gala dinner of the NILGA Annual Conference on the evening of February 23 in the Hilton Hotel, Templepatrick.
