Council to celebrate Dunn's MBE

NEWTOWNABBEY Borough Council has set aside a budget of £5,000 to hold a special event to celebrate the award of the MBE to former Chief Executive Norman Dunn (pictured).

Mr Dunn, who served with the local authority for 50 years before his retirement at the end of March, was made a Freeman of the Borough last year. He was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in recognition of his lifetime of service to local government.

At their monthly meeting on Monday evening, members agreed that a civic event with a budget of 5,000 be organised to mark Mr Dunn’s MBE award. They also approved budgets of 7,000 for the Mayor’s inaugural dinner on September 17, 6,000 for the Mayor’s Christmas dinner on December 3 and 3,000 for an international students event on a date yet to be confirmed.

It is understood that all four civic events will take place at the council’s Mossley Mill headquarters.
