Council to lobby Justice Minister over Lisburn Courthouse

A date has not yet been set for the meeting but the delegation will contain representation from a number of political parties.

Ulster Unionist Councillor Alexander Redpath said: “I am delighted that the Minister is giving us this opportunity to voice our concerns in person.

“We have been very clear that the closure of our local Courthouse will disadvantage some of the most vulnerable people in society.

“Court proceedings can be very stressful times in people’s lives.

“Having a locally accessible Courthouse in a familiar environment mitigates what can be a very distressing experience.

“I would call upon everyone in Lisburn to stand up for their Courthouse and sign the petition organised by the Lisburn Solicitor’s Association.

“The very fact that we are a city and one of the largest settlements in Northern Ireland justifies a certain level of public services which in my view includes a Courthouse.”
