Council to pay for upkeep of town centre sites

Council committee members have agreed that the local authority should take on the upkeep of three sites in Ballyclare town centre that were part of an environmental improvement project.

Work previously took place to clear, landscape and grass the derelict sites at the bottom of the town and North End as part of the Town Centres Action Plan, but the council is now going to have to foot the bill for maintaining the sites.

Last Monday evening the council’s Leisure Committee agreed that the maintenance should be carried out at an estimated annual cost of £5,200.

That decision still has to be ratified when the full council meets on September 30.
