Council to query parking enforcement duties
Newtownabbey Council is to write to Transport NI asking it to clarify who is responsible for enforcing regulations regarding parking on double yellow lines.
Responding to correspondence from the Department for Regional Development (DRD) unit advising that it plans to paint double yellow lines along a section of McKinney Road in Mallusk, Alliance Alderman John Blair claimed that there doesn’t seem to be any enforcement of double yellow line restrictions across the borough, and that drivers regularly ignore the lines.
He told the council’s October Planning Committee meeting that motorists flouting the regulations is a problem in several areas, particularly at the bottom of Carnmoney Road in Glengormley.
Speaking after the meeting, Alderman Blair said that whether enforcing double yellow line parking restrictions is a matter for the DRD or the police, it is an issue that needs to be addressed.
