Council to take over two Clondermot pitches

FOOTBALL pitches and changing facilities at the former Clondermot High School site will be improved by the Department of Social Development (DSD) to allow Derry City Council bring the interface facility into regular use again.

The site owners DSD want to put in place some interim arrangements for site development over the next three to five years whilst Derry City Council is commited to the future development of the Clondermot Site as "a critical interface location."

A meeting of the local authority's Development Committee heard last week that the Council was looking forward to expanding on its Community Services and Shared City projects at the site.

A report to the Committee meeting advised: "It is proposed that Council should take possession of the football pitches and changing facilities which are currently available on the site.

"DSD will undertake any remedial or improvement works which are required to ensure that the facilities are fully fit for purpose. This proposal will provide two additional playing pitches at a time when Council's existing quota is under severe pressure.

"I would therefore recommend that the Committee approve the proposal that Council accepts the offer of the two pitches at Clondermot with associated changing facilities."
