Council wants to sell land to golf club

LARNE Council has expressed its desire to sell over 47 acres of land to Cairndhu Golf Club at a price of £82,500.

The land at Carnfunnock Country Park has been under lease to the golf club since 1965 at a cost of £655 a year, with the current lease running until 2059. It contains seven holes of the 18 hole course, and is maintained and brought up to standard by the club.

Ongoing discussions between representatives of the local authority, the golf club, solicitors acting for both parties and the district valuer have resulted in a valuation of £82,500 for the site.

It has been agreed that a restriction will be placed on the site to ensure it can only be used as a golf course in future.

The local authority is now seeking approval from the Department of the Environment to dispose of the lands at price quoted by the valuer.
