Council will take the lead on tourism

After 22 years as a councillor on Coleraine Borough Council, Ulster Unionist Norman Hillis successfully gained a seat in the new Causeway Coast and Glens District Council.

The 67-year-old, who was one of the first Ulster Unionist elected to the new regieme, said he was under ‘no illusion’ that there was plenty of hard work ahead in the new council.

He added that he felt that tourism could be a major driver in the new ‘super council’.

“We now have all of Northern Ireland’s major tourist attractions under the one roof of the new Council - this new council takes in a huge area from Dungiven right round to the Glens, but think of all the attractions we now have.

“It can only be a positive, and we will strive to push tourism as an economic driver.”
