Council working to keep rates down

MOVES to finalise the rates bill for local ratepayers took a step closer this week when a special meeting of the Policy and Resources Committee agreed a figure which will be struck on February 9 by the council.

Antrim Line councillor, Alderman Nigel Hamilton commented: "I am satisfied that we have taken into account the importance of easing any additional burden by hiking rates. The rates issue is probably more in peoples’ minds this year than previously, as residents want to make sure that they are getting value for money from their politicians and that they are accountable for their decisions when spending ratepayers’ money. I feel that we have worked hard with officers to keep the doorstep figure below 3 per cent and when the final decision is made, that will be the case.”
