"People want to know what steps they can take to save energy and money and be more eco-friendly," said Councillor Black. "Energy Saving Week is an excellent opportunity to concentrate on how to save energy."

Ms. Black offered the following advice - Turn off one single computer and monitor left on 24 hours a day - save 50 per year; turning off unnecessary lights - save 5; turn off standby - save 30; double Glazing - save 135; solid wall insulation, 400; turn heating down - save 55; a photocopier left on standby overnight wastes enough energy to make 30 cups of tea.

"Cutting back on the use of energy will save you money," said Ms. Black. "particularly with the high cost of energy at the minute, and will also reduce your carbon emissions.

"At a time when the economic situation is hitting everyone's pocket, reducing your energy usage is the ideal way of saving money as well as helping the environment. A simple free call to 0800 512 012 today could help you on your way to stop wasting your money and energy,"
