Drew McCoubrey, his wife Betty and daughter Ashley completed a ‘sky jump’ from the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas last month to raise funds for the charity.

The trip was originally organised to celebrate Ashley having gained a 2:1 Honours degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Ulster.

Drew explained: “As part of the celebration for Ashley gaining her degree, we organised a graduation barbecue social evening on July 5 which we also used as fund raiser for the NI Hospice to try and help us reach the £1000 target.

“On hearing of our attempt to hit our target, our close family friend and newly elected UKIP councillor Noel Jordan immediately offered his services to cook the food on the barbecue, which we gratefully accepted.

“The barbecue was a fantastic success; we collected another £315 which helped us to raise the total amount to £1051.”

Mr Jordan added: “The occasion was one which made me very proud to be from Carrickfergus as the generosity of the people on the night was fantastic.”
