Councillor offers £1000 reward after house attack

ONE of Ulster's longest serving councillor has offered £1000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for a recent attack on his home which resulted in the glass of a number of windows and doors being smashed.

Moyle Independent member, Price McConaghy, says both he and his wife, Beth, could have been the subject of a murder enquiry such was the ferocity of the attack in which large rocks were hurled from the roadside through the glass narrowly missing both of them as they sat in the living room of their home at Dunseverick.

Now, Councillor McConaghy is offering 1000 to anyone who can provide information which would lead to a conviction.

Speaking to the Times, Cllr. McConaghy said that after more than 50 years as a councillor he would never have expected this to happen to him as he has served the community well during that period.

He said he was “very keen” to find out who was responsible.

“This could have been a murder enquiry. Both my wife and I were sitting in the living room when huge rocks came smashing through the glass panels with a great deal of force just missing us by inches. Had they struck us we could have been killed.”

Cllr. McConaghy says he is still living with the fear of a further attack and the memory of the incident refuses to go away.

He has thanked neighbours and friends who have expressed their support and sympathy, but says he is somehwat disappointed with the PSNI.

“Initially, we had good response, but since then very little has happened. It is disappointing and we hope that the incident can be brought to a close with the arrest of those responsible,” Cllr. McConaghy added.

Information about the incident should be passed on to the PSNI through the proper channels, the Cllr. stressed.
