Councillors back new speed restriction

COUNCILLORS have backed a proposal by DRD Roads Service to introduce a 40mph speed limit on part of the Glenkeen Road and Agivey Road in Aghadowey.

At last Tuesday’s Coleraine Borough Council meeting, councillors heard that the restriction is considered necessary due to the increase in development of the location.

Cllr Sam Cole said he was hopeful that the new speed limit would mean less annoyance for the local residents.

“This arose due to a number of complaints from residents,” he revealed.

“Unfortunately the large amount of heavy vehicles using the road was causing vibrations in their homes.

“After consulting with Roads Service they agreed to cut the speed limit. Hopefully this will cut out the problems experienced by the residents.”

Cllr Adrian McQuillan (pictured right) said he agreed with the proposal but asked if it would be possible to extend the new speed limit to the end of the Glenkeen Road as there can be a large amount of cars parked on the road when there is an event on in the Orange Hall.

Councillors voted in favour of Cllr McQuillan’s proposal.
